Sport in
Hartismere provides all pupils and students with a wide experience of
physical activities for all abilities and interests. The winter
programme includes football, hockey, rugby, netball and cross-country
running, whilst in the summer, tennis, cricket, athletics, rounders and
softball take over. The curriculum also includes indoor work in the
Sports Hall with gymnastics, badminton, basketball, volleyball and
table-tennis. P.E. is offered at GCSE level and 'A'-Level. Orienteering
and problem-solving complete the curriculum
Clubs,
practices and competitions form a vital extension to the curriculum at
lunchtimes and after school. There are House competitions in all
activities, the highlight being Sports Day in June. The school has teams
in a wide variety of sports, competing in local leagues and cup
competitions. Our teams and individuals continue to maintain very high
standards resulting in many successes in a range of activities. The
recent OFSTED report stated that "inter-school sport is a strong feature
at Hartismere. Matches are played in a variety of sports with
individuals and teams achieving considerable success". We emphasise
enjoyment and an enthusiastic and sporting approach to all sport.
Many pupils
and students have represented North Suffolk in athletics, cross-country,
football, netball, cricket and rounders with a number going on to
achieve success at County level. One pupil has reached international
standard in rugby representing his country against Wales at Twickenham.
We have girls who will represent Norfolk and Suffolk in Hockey.
The
school has been awarded a "Sportsmark" by the English Schools Sports
Council twice in recognition of the quality of Physical Education
programme.
Pupils and students are encouraged to further their
knowledge and expertise by joining some of the numerous local clubs
which are extremely helpful in providing extra opportunities. We also
have outside coaches offering their expertise in golf, hockey,
badminton, football, basketball and rugby.
