Links with Schools and Institutions

We wish to make the transfer from primary school to Hartismere as pleasant, exciting and easy as possible and so we take every opportunity to keep good links with our feeder primary schools.

We feel that it is very important to develop curriculum links, especially in the light of government initiatives in literacy, numeracy and science. Meanwhile, we continue to encourage an exchange of personnel in CDT and other areas of the curriculum, where time-tabling permits.

The Head of Key Stage 3 spends much time during the year visiting Year 6 pupils and in the summer term by joining the majority of them in their annual residential experience.

Throughout the year the Primary School pupils are welcomed into Hartismere for various 'days' and productions so that they can be happy about the prospect of transferring to us.

There are numerous links made each year with the community. In certain subjects the pupils work with and help patients in Hartismere Hospital. The school has built a bird hide for community use at the Pennings in Eye. The Sponsored Walk each year raises money for the Thornham Trust and much of that money has been used to develop the facilities there for the disabled. We also welcome links that can be made through the sharing of our sports facilities with the community around Eye.

Links with Industry and Workplaces

Hartismere is proud of its links with industry and hopes not only to preserve these but to extend them.

Work placement schemes are very necessary so that our pupils can understand what businesses do and how they achieve their objectives. The feedback from these organisations is also invaluable as it is necessary that the school understands the attributes local employers require from potential employees.

We feel that our involvement with local industry and business is very important and is an aspect which must be developed wherever possible. We are very lucky to be surrounded by so many local firms that are prepared to become involved with mentoring, work placement and other school activities. We see our links as a partnership and that we at Hartismere can offer local businesses something in return for their help and assistance.
