Religious Education

Meet your Religious Education teachers:

Welcome to the Hartismere High School Religious Education Department website. We have a lively department, and this website is intended to show you what we do, and some of the successful resources that we have used.

What is “religious education?”
Basically, Religious Education examines beliefs-both your own beliefs and the beliefs of others. It also examines how those beliefs have affected decisions and lifestyles. A “religion” can be described as a group or set of beliefs that a group of people all hold to.

So, what can I learn in my R.E. lessons?

Ideally, R.E. gives you the chance to examine beliefs and ways of describing beliefs. The intention is to give you an insight into the affect of belief. This should apply to both personal relationships and for society.

Also, R.E. should help you to become aware of the important questions in life that no one has yet found an answer. Why are we here? What is the point of life? Did “someone” or “something” make us? There are many opinions already on this issue, and all religions have presented opinions and further questions on these matters

What skills can I develop in my R.E. lesson?

R.E. is definitely a reflective subject-in R.E. lessons, you are required to think about and reflect on many different ideas and opinions. You will need to develop skills such as; sensitivity to what is special to others, willingness to live with uncertainty, a desire to seek truth, and confidence to express personal ideas.
