Hartismere's Library
Mrs J Lewis Librarian

The Library plays an important part in supporting our pupils’ learning in all subjects and also offers a place for independent research. Computers are in place for research/study purposes. They provide the full range of programmes common to the school’s networked system and access to the Internet.

The Library is open throughout the school day. During lesson time it is available for whole class bookings or use by small groups of pupils. Sixth Form students also have timetabled Library study periods. At lunchtime the Library is open to all those who wish to use it for quiet study or reading but at break time the atmosphere is more relaxed, and the Library becomes a lively, social place.

All pupils are automatically members of the Library. They are allowed to take out up to three books (fiction for two weeks and/or non-fiction for one week). Sixth Formers are permitted five books.

The Library is the venue for a variety of events. We have had readings and talks by visiting speakers; quizzes and competitions. We take part in the annual Suffolk Book Mastermind competition and the Carnegie Medal shadowing process.

Termly Book Fairs allow outside agencies to bring in books for the pupils and students to buy or choose for the library. We hope to continue this practice in order to nurture and to reinforce good reading habits in Hartismere.
