The curriculum sets out to fulfill the aims of the school which are to
provide a broad, balanced and relevant education for all our pupils and
students. The National Curriculum has identified certain subjects as
“Core” and “Foundation” which must be taught. The schools can
provide parents with detailed schemes of work and various National
Curriculum details if requested.
All Year 7 lessons are taught in mixed ability groups. Subsequent
year groupings are arranged at the discretion of individual departments.

All our pupils follow a Personal and Social Education course which
helps the pupils to develop as confident and responsible individuals. It
covers a wide range of topics from such things as decision making and
goal setting to health education and economic awareness. Pupils in Years
10 and 11 are allocated one lesson a week in addition to ‘crashed’
sessions during which a team of teachers consider specific topics:
decision-making, careers education and other issues pertinent to their
age and development. Pupils in Years 7, 8, and 9 similarly meet with
their tutors daily, but have ‘crashed’ sessions when the need arises
for an expert to talk to them on specific topics. The time with the form
tutors, for all years, is used to follow the progress of each pupil, and
to discuss with them these strategies for improvement.
We have an established pattern of assemblies at this school. Arranged
throughout the course of the week, there are assemblies for the Year
Groups, in addition to those for the Upper and Lower Schools and VI
Form. At key points of each term we are able to bring the whole school
together in our Sports Hall: it should also be noted that all 7-10 Year
pupils attend the annual Carol Service in Eye Parish Church, a ceremony
which is optional for members of Years 11, 12 and 13.
Under the terms of current legislation, parents/guardians may, should
they wish, request to withdraw their child(ren) from religious education
lessons and/or from assemblies which have a religious theme. Parents
considering such a request should contact the school in order to arrange
an appointment with an appropriate senior member of staff. |
