" . . .

Religious Education is an important basic subject of the National Curriculum though it is not actually designated as a ‘Core’ or ‘Foundation’ subject. At Hartismere, all pupils are taught it as a separate subject in Years 7, 8 and 9. In Years 10 and 11 it is taught as part of the Personal and Social Education course to all pupils and can also be studied as a GCSE subject. The syllabus followed is non-denominational in character. It aims to examine and explore questions about life and belief and to look at the different responses people have made and are making to these questions. It looks at the local community as well as the experiences of people of different cultures.
