General National Vocational Qualifications
These qualifications offer you excellent preparation for the world of
work, enabling you to gain a wide range of knowledge, skills and
experience in broad vocational and academic areas leading to a degree.
You will develop a flexible approach to learning and have a plan to work
to meet your deadlines. You will have to complete successfully a number
of units during your one or two year course, at some units have a test
at the end. You also complete a portfolio of coursework. You will gain
relevant work experience during your time at the sixth form and will
also cover the core skills of communication, application of number and
information technology.
There are three levels on offer:
Foundation
A one year full time course leading to a qualification equivalent to 4/5
GCSEs at
grades D-G.
Entry requirements: None
Vocational areas available for study: Health and Social
Care and Leisure and Tourism.
Intermediate
A one year full time course leading to a qualification equivalent to 4/5
GCSEs at
grades A* to C.
Entry Requirements: 3 GCSEs at grades E and above.
Vocational areas available for study: Health and Social Care and
Business
Advanced
A two year full time course leading to a qualification equivalent to 2 A
levels.
Entry Requirements: 4 GCSEs at grades A* - C.
Vocational areas available for study: Business.
Where do GNVQs Lead?
They prepare you for both work and further study. Many of our local
employers welcome the approach to work that GNVQ encourages. All GNVQs
lead to work related National Vocational Qualifications. Foundation and
intermediate GNVQs lead to the next GNVQ level. Advanced GNVQ can lead
to a degree course or higher National Diploma.
